Prince George is at the crossroads of the north south route through Canada up to Fairbanks Alaska which eventually becomes the Alaska Highway, and Canada 16 which links northwest British Columbia to the Trans Canada Highway.  A town of 75,000 the brochures claim its main industries are pretty much white collar, but there is a huge logging/timber business and chemical and refinery operations.

Really vibrant town, busy traffic, lots of interesting places to visit.  You are welcomed at the crossroads my Mr PG, a 27 foot high figure, originally created as the town mascot by a local rotarian in 1960.  he was then on 1m high (3ft3”)  He went on a world tour, and got lost.  He was finally found many years later in Scotland wearing a kilt and a sporran.   It was the decide to create the big guy, and the little guy is in the museum.

The Railway and Timber Museum is a great place to visit as you will see.  If you read my blog yesterday you will have seen the Carriage Horse Sled Pull with a modern sled. I found an original in the museum, and even better than that a restored Firefighters Sled. I’ve seen handcarts, horse drawn carts etc but never before one of these. The Beehive Burner was used to burn scrap wood until the solution rules changed.

Next door is Cottonwood Park, on the river, with great bike trails. As I was riding my bike around I came across a couple of creatures, including Chickadee’s that were eating from a family’s hands.  My red squirrel buddy posed nicely.

A local artist has over the years carved faces in th4 bark of many of the trees – I am showing three out of twenty.

Then there are the chemical plants and pulp mills.

A great cross section for a day’s visit.
