At the the end of the rainy season in late May the grass lands of the Busanga Plains were under water, too much water for land vehicles and too little for traditional boats.  We spent the days moving around the flooded land in a flat bottom aluminum boat powered by an odd motor that has two propellers on the same shaft – one for propulsion and the other for chopping grass. Predawn trips brought sitings of lions hunting impala or any other catchable breakfast.  Late afternoon pre sunset trips found us often sitting in the midst of hippos- maybe up to a hundred in their favorite clear area where the water may have been 8 feet deep, where they walked on the bottom underneath the boat!  The following pictures represent some of the wildlife present which at this time of year is home for thousands of birds of many species, as well as Lions, Cape Buffalo, Impala, Warthogs, Wildebeest and many more.  Just click on any picture to enlarge it and scan through the collection
