We were taking pictures of Bald Eagles sitting on a rock across the Chalkot River, in Haines Alaska, when my photographer friend said “Oh, Bear”.  Well bear sitings are what we are here for. I turned my head and said something like “Oh, gosh!”   As you will see from the pictures he was less than fifty yards away, but fortunately decided that the salmon in the river were far more attractive a dish.

He trotted off along the river bank and rocks and we followed.  I noticed a stroller sitting on the grass with a cooler nearby.  The parents had grabbed the baby and rushed up off the bank.  Believe it or nat these were a young Alaskan couple who said that bears come by fairly often during the day.  But they picnic with their baby in an area where they pass by?

So Bruno continues his trek for salmon, has a dip, and wanders off again.
