The area around Golden is truly magnificent and offers many treasures to the visitor, including a great micro brewery (according to friends)

Close to our campground was a mountain some almost 8,000  feet high where parachutists and hang gliders would jump off.  I drove up 9 miles of forestry road, (you have to love a Jeep) and on the way on turning a bend was confronted by Momma Bear and her two cubs.  Absolutely brilliant watching them learning to eat the greenery.

On the way down I came across friendly Marmot, who posed a bit, stood up to see what i was and generally created some great photos.

Down the road was a ski resort, Kicking Horse Resort, and the Gondolas were open for summer tourists and hikers.  A ride up top produced some great shots.

Further out towards the town of Revelstoke that is an ancient Cedar Forrest.  The park service has built a terrific loop walkway through the forrest and the serenity of the place is almost weird.

Finally a drive down a forrest road some fifty miles to a lake at the head of the Columbia River revealed an idyllic place where local people take their boats and caravans/campers.

The red house floating on the lake is called “The Marge Barge” so I guess the owners name is not Mary!  On this trip we saw some far off Loons, the bird on Canadian Coins on the other side to the Queen.  Interestingly enough the Canadians don’t refer to their coinage as dollars, they call them “Loonies”

Finally nighttime provided an open sky to shoot the Milky Way
